Out with the old, in with the new!

So, personally and professionally it has been a tumultuous six months for me.  It’s been rough.  I’m happy to say that I have come out on the other side and am in a much better place now.  This blog has been a casualty of the ups and downs, but I am still here chugging along and trying new beauty products.  Too many actually, I have accumulated quite the beauty stash.

Some background – at the beginning of August, I turned in notice to my old job and took a month long sabbatical before starting a new job in September.  During that month I made a lot of bad art, spent time with my family, took a vacation to Mexico and did a lot of thinking about what I want the  5-10 years to look like.  I don’t bullet journal or anything like that, but I do think it’s a good idea to write your goals down.  I started doing this in my early 30’s and it has really helped me focus on what I want to do and achieve.  There are so many day to day concerns that occupy our time and energy, like work and family and friendships, that is good to have a list of things you really want to do running in the back of your mind.  One of my goals was to be in place where I could take a sabbatical, and when I could I jumped on the opportunity.  Not only that, but I enjoyed every moment, knowing that this was a rare occurrence.

But back to beauty… during my month off I did a lot of organizing and purging my beauty stash.  I took a hard look at what was worth keeping and what I needed to toss.  Some things I gave away and others were so old they needed to go.  I also had too many bottles that were partially used and taking up space.  So, the past two months I have been using up products left and right.

A few items I used up:

  • Living Proof Hair Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 Styling Treatment   (glorious)
  • Johnson’s  Coconut & Shea Butter Baby Oil Gel
  • Matrix Total Effects Blondecare Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Acure Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner
  • The Body Shop Aloe Moisturizer
  •  The Body Shop Green Tea Tree Gel
  • Boots No 7 Melting Gel Facial Cleanser
  • Countless bottles of partially used sunscreen
  • Rene Furterer Absalue Keratine Sublime Leave in Cream (it WAS sublime actually).
  • Curel Itch Defense Body Moisturizer
  • A jar of NOW Coconut Oil

Ooof.  I finished up a lot of half used product.  And what’s up with all the moisturizer I use?  I need to drink more water!  I would like to say that I will never let products pile up like that again but I know myself too well.  Let’s just say I am going to make an effort not to beauty hoard.  From here on out I vow to use what I like and toss or pass on what I don’t like.

Am I the only one who does this?  How do you manage your beauty stash?
