We are deep into summer where the living is easy and so is my beauty routine. These days, I am just trying to get in and out of the bathroom as quickly as I can and live my life. So, Instead of blowing my hair out every time I wash it, I have been letting air dry. I’m still wearing makeup, but less of it. Here is what is getting me out the door quickly while maintaining my cool.
Hair –
I chopped off about 6 inches of my hair in June and have been sporting a blunt bob ever since. This is great for the summer as blunt haircuts work well with the curly hair texture. The bluntness of the bob gives my hair some weight and keeps the curls from getting crazy frizzy. (Side bar – If you have curly hair and a hairstylist tries to come at you with a razor or texurizing scissors, DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR HAIR. You will only left with frizzy hair and regrets.) Styling: I wash and condition my hair as usual and I then put my hair up in a towel for a couple of minutes to get the excess moisture out. Next I comb the tangles out and then apply a quarters worth of Curl Keeper Gel or Ouidad’s Climate Control Gel. Then I comb it straight down either side of my head, cross myself and hope the best. If it’s really hot, I will pin back either side with bobby pin or barrette’s. The key is to touch your hair as little as possible, so hands off! If my hair ends up drying wacky, I will braid the front pieces away from face and pin it up and back. Done.
Face –
The Colourpop obsession continues and I have been using a single swipe of the cream eyeshadow in the color”Wattles” on my lids. “Wattles” is the ideal bronzy shimmery shade and gives my eyes enough definition to skip eyeliner (but not mascara, what kind of monster do you I am? I would never skip mascara).
For eyebrows I have been using the new Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel. This stuff rocks! Forget all the other brow products I have recommended over the years, this is the easiest and most goof proof of them all. This gel tames and shapes the brows really nicely and fills them in. $24 is little steep but for something that works so well, it’s worth it the cost.
For lips I have been working on a tube of Sephora’s unique pink. This is a tinted lip balm the adjusts to a unique shade of pink for you based on your Ph. The color I get from this is always a nice light pink that looks natural and is super moisturizing. I went to link this product and they no longer sell it. Boo! Just goes to show that if find something you love, buy two of them.
Body –
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. I like Kiehl’s or goodl old Neutrogena as I can use on the body and face without breaking out. I keep a sample bottle in purse at all times because you never know what the day will hold.
For a body moisturizer I continue to use the Body Shop’s Aloe Moisturizer, which I purchased back in spring. I love this moisturizer, mainly because it is not so moisturizing that it leaves my skin sticky.
Also, I have been trying to using up all the skincare serum samples I have received over the years. To do this I have been using them on my arms, chest and legs, and not just my face. I figure if they will work on my face they will work on the rest of my body too. Besides, the skin on my face is more easily irritated versus the skin on my arms.
That’s it for now folks. Hope you are enjoying your summer too!

I’m not going to lie – it was hard to cut all my hair off. But once I did I was very happy and have continued to be happy. Let’s see how I feel come fall.

Love your sidebar on the dangers of using razors on curls! I have a mop of crazy curls and have had to protect it from overzealous stylists way too many times. I’d love if you would check out my blog (brandy new beauty blog) and give me some tips!

I wish I had seen this before I cut my hair short 😦 I think they end up using diff scissors at the ends of my hair && after a day, my hair got flyaway and really wavy. Btw, love your blog! xx

Aww, I’m so glad you like the blog! Regarding curly hair – I suspected that the texturizing scissors were what was making my hair poof for some time, but I’m not a hair dresser and didn’t want to challenge someone holding scissors. I am so happy that blunt hair cuts are the thing now! I will never let anyone texturize my hair again.
